Developmental genetics of eye development

Located on the Davis campus, we are members of the Department of Cell Biology and Human Anatomy in the School of Medicine, and the Center for Vision Science. Our primary research focus is to understand the molecular mechanisms and genetic pathways regulating the development of the lens and retina. We anticipate this research will contribute to a better understanding of congenital eye diseases, and ultimately to therapies that correct vision loss. At present our emphasis lies in understanding how lens progenitor cells differentiate into fiber cells, and retinal progenitor cells select a particular neuronal fate.
