Gabriel is from Mexico and is pursuing an M.D. at UC Davis Medical School. He is intrigued by the complexities of the immune system and how understanding its role in specific lymphomas or leukemias can help develop cancer therapies. He received his B.A. in Cellular and Molecular biology from Chico State, where he conducted undergraduate research on the proliferation and migration of hematopoietic and progenitor cells in zebrafish. After graduation, he became a CIRM student and conducted research in the lab of Dr. Irving Weissman at Stanford university, studying the molecular signals in the microenvironment of the blood-forming stem cell. Outside of the lab, Gabriel enjoys painting, weightlifting, or playing soccer.
