Research Interest: Molecular carcinogenesis and therapeutic targets in ovarian cancer using cancer genomics, functional genomics, tissue-specific targeting, PROTACs, and patient-derived models of cancer.

Steffanie Michelle Owens

Steffanie Owens, M.D.

Gynecologic Oncology Fellow

Research Interest: Dr. Owens is a clinical fellow in Gynecologic Oncology and has found her first bench lab research experiences to be both challenging and enlightening. Her appreciation for the scientific process has never been greater, as she pursues the identification of drugs that may cause calreticulin externalization in ovarian cancer cell lines. A clinician at heart, she hopes her contributions may add in some small way to downstream therapeutic benefits for her future ovarian cancer patients.

PhD Candidate

Research Interest: My research focuses on elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying the intragenic effect of the P72R SNP (rs1052522) on hotspot TP53 mutants and their combined effect of cellular division, cell death, metastasis, and autophagic regulation. My work aims to understand the biological pathways that contribute to molecular oncogenesis, determine the mechanisms through which we can develop effective strategies to target specific mutants in cancer and apply functional genomic techniques to study the effect of mutant p53 in carcinogenesis.
